How to Reduce Bounce Rate of Your Website?

Bounce Rate: One of the most overlooked aspects of SEO. This is a metric that tells you how often people navigate off your website on their first visit by either

  • Clicking the back button or
  • Closing the window.

You’ll soon realize how to use bounce rate to keep more visitors on your site and maximize your ranking potential.

What is a Positive User Experience, and How Does it Relate to Ranking and SEO?

As Google has said in the past, it caters to a positive user experience for searchers using its platform.

A positive user experience comprises searchers quickly and easily finding the information they are searching for.

If a website proves to be a hindrance in that task, that website will have a poor user experience. Google will limit how effectively it can rank.

Bounce Rate: a Key Factor in User Experience

Bounce rate comes into play in this user experience category.

When a user visits a website and quickly leaves, that lets Google know they most likely did not find what they were looking for.

By having a high bounce rate percentage–typically anything 75% or above; a website may not be reaching its full potential in the search engine results pages (SERPs).

How to Reduce Your Bounce Rate Through Internal Linking?

To take advantage of bounce rate, and thus gain ranking potential, use effective strategies to keep visitors on your site. Help them click through to other pages.

Inter linking is one method. This is when you provide many links to other pages on your site for visitors to click to; when they are done reading the page they arrived on. You can mostly do this in the form of links to other, similar blog posts.

Google also likes interlinking because it provides an abundance of information on website architecture.

Google’s spider bot navigates and indexes a site through the use of links on the website.

For example, if a website had no links to a specific page, Google might not discover that page.

Inter linking goes hand-in-hand with bounce rate.

Inter linking allow visitors for site navigation. Also, it will help prevent a bounce from occurring.
When a visitor clicks through to another page, their session will not count as a bounced session.

Your bounce rate will decrease by a fraction of a percentage compared to the number of visitors your website receives.

Using Other Methods to Reduce a Website’s Bounce Rate?

To reduce bounce rate, you might consider an exit intent pop-up.

This is a JavaScript technique of predicting when the visitor will click on either the close button or the back button.

The pop-up may feature a message such as,

“Before you leave, check out our limited time promotion!”

Rather than continuing with their navigation off of your site; the visitor may click into the special offer and remain on your site.

One of the biggest things to keep in mind regarding catering to a positive user experience is

“To keep visitors on your site and strive to lower your bounce rate at all costs.”
